The civil engineer's job is to solve problems relating to the infrastructure of modern society, and to consider the environmental impact, efficiency and cost effectiveness of this infrastructure. For example, civil engineers may be involved in reshaping a city's landscape by being an integral part of designing, planning, managing and overseeing the development of infrastructure projects. They may be involved in the evolving field of transportation engineering, which combines social and economic concerns along with core engineering capability. A civil engineer may be responsible for establishing whether or not a building design is safe, or may inspect and analyse a dam wall to see if it is structurally sound. One of the many exciting aspects of civil engineering is working in multidisciplinary teams with other engineers, construction managers, architects, contractors and many other disciplines. Civil engineers enjoy excellent career prospects as they are involved in so many facets of everyday life and its associated infrastructure.
